Beach rangers in Cornwall have warned of the dangers of digging giant holes in the sand after a 6ft deep hole appeared near a cafe. Polzeath Beach Rangers shared footage of the hole in question, posting a “serious message” on their Facebook page that warned anyone falling in could have been seriously injured or suffocated. They said they were “shocked” adults stood by for several hours as small children dug the pit. “Thankfully, the sand didn’t dry out, and the walls stayed firm enough for long enough to prevent a collapse followed by crushing and/or suffocation of the little people,” Polzeath Beach Rangers wrote. “The parents weren’t thinking straight that day, they left without filling the pit in.” Rangers also thanked a concerned passer-by who alerted them and filled the hole in.
